On 7th March 2016 student council members Alan O’Reilly, Aoife Flynn and Liam Boland attended the flag presentation ceremony in Croke Park as part of the 1916 centenary celebrations. Ryan Tubridy was the special guest who acted as MC and kept the large crowd entertained on a bitterly cold day. After his inspection of the Guard of Honour, 12 Infantry Battalion, Uachtarán na hÉireann, Micheál D. Ó hUiginn gave a truly inspirational speech emphasising the importance of peace and respect. He set us and more particularly our young people the task of imagining what Ireland might yet become. A video clip from President John F. Kennedy’s visit to Ireland in 1963 was shown and musical entertainment was then provided by special guests Seo Linn. They played a superb rendition of Oró Sé do Bheatha Bhaile. This was followed by the National Flag Presentation Ceremony. Alan O’Reilly collected the flag on behalf of Confey College. After the closing remarks by the Master of Ceremonies, Amhrán na bhFiann was sung by the army band. Confey College were proud to participate in this special day.
